A soft disposable contact lens electrode
Bridging a 40-year innovation gap with modern design and innovative engineering

Designed for comfort
The RM Electrode® was engineered to deliver enhanced comfort without compromising the effectiveness of ERG testing. Soft medical grade silicone allows for extended wear with minimal ocular irritation.
With a focus on repeatability and reliability, it is designed to minimize motion and blink artifacts and maximize signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Reducing variability in ERG testing can provide greater test accuracy, fewer retests, improved test time and overall patient comfort.
Designed for performance and convenience, it is plug-and-play and compatible with most ERG systems.

Made of soft medical grade silicone for comfort and safety.
Conforms to the cornea and sclera to provide high positional stability.
Recessed gold-plated electrode creates a thick tear film layer between the metal and cornea making indirect electrical contact and reducing motion and blink artifact.
Comfortably retracts the eyelids for consistent pupil exposure.
RM Electrode® performance

Light-adapted 3.0 ERG (single-flash cone response): ERG waveforms recorded with the RM Electrode® (black trace in all panels) and the ERG-Jet Electrode (orange), Burian-Allen electrode (purple) and DTL-Plus electrode (green). Note: The 28% reduction in ERG amplitude for the DTL response is consistent with previously reported values (Michael P. Hennessy & Vaegan, 1995, L. Esakowitz, A kriss, F, Shawkat, 1993). Each waveform is the average of 30 responses. All recording electrodes (RM, Jet, BA and DTL) were referenced to a gold cup electrode on the forehead.
RM Electrode® comfort

Limbal redness over 60 minutes total wear time: Limbal redness observed at 20 min intervals, 60 minutes total wear time across three study groups. Study participants (n=10 per study group) wore one electrode in each eye. Grading score indicates: 0 (Normal), 1 (Trace), 2 (Mild), 3 (Moderate), 4 (Severe).

Corneal staining after 60 minutes total wear time: Study participants (n=10 per study group) wore one electrode in each eye. Corneal staining was evaluated at time 0 and after 60 minutes of total across three study groups. Grading score indicates: 0 (Normal), 1 (Trace), 2 (Mild), 3 (Moderate), 4 (Severe).
FAQs
The RM Electrode is the first soft, corneal contact lens electrode, offering greater comfort without compromising signal quality.
Yes, the RM Electrode is FDA cleared. It is indicated for use in patients aged 12 years and above undergoing diagnostic full-field electroretinogram (ERG) recording procedures.
No, the RM Electrode is currently not available for sale outside of the United States. Please contact us for further information.
The RM Electrode is cleared for full-field electroretinogram (ERG) recording procedures.
No, the RM Electrode is a single-use disposable electrode. It must not be re-sterilized or re-used.
Yes, the RM Electrode is shipped sterile.
The RM Electrode is cleared for use in patients aged 12 years and over.
The RM Electrode is compatible with most ERG systems. It has a 1.5 mm touch-proof connector making it plug-and-play, and per the labeling (IFU), complies with all applicable medical device safety standards, such as IEC 60601-1. Please contact us if the RM Electrode is not compatible with your ERG system.
Reference ranges obtained using the Burian Allen (unipolar) Electrode or the ERG-Jet can be used when recording with the RM Electrode. We are working to develop conversion factors for all other electrode types.
The RM Electrode is not indicated to be used for more than one hour.
